In order to be nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year, artists must have released their first recording single before 1991. This makes legendary musician and activist, Tupac Shakur, eligible for nomination for the first time in the 2017 class.

Often considered the bad boy of rap, there were many layers to Tupac Shakur’s music. On one hand, Pac was conscious in his bars and dissected the plight of African American people. He often discussed creating his own political party before his murder in September 1996. However, others may produce a Tupac remembrance of hard-nosed interviews and strong criticisms of other rappers including Biggy and Bad Boy producer Sean Puffy Combs. Still, iconic, inspirational hits like “Changes”; “Brenda’s Got a Baby”; and “Keep Your Head Up”, altered the face of rap forever.

Fans can vote once a day through December 5 by visiting Rockhall.com for Tupac to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Other nominees include: Bad Brains, Depeche Mode, Electric Light Orchestra, Jane's Addiction, Joan Baez, Journey, Pearl Jam, Steppenwolf, Chaka Khan, Chic, Janet Jackson, J. Geils Band, Joe Tex, Kraftwerk, MC5, The Cars and The Zombies and Yes.

A decision will be made this December.
