Legendary music icon and social justice advocate, Tupac Shakur, will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 7th of next year at the Brooklyn Barclays Center.

Pac was one of several nominees, but is only the seventh “hip hop” artist to enter the Hall of Fame. He joins notable groups in the genre like N.W.A., Public Enemy and Grandmaster Flash.

Tupac is most known for cultural hits like “Keep Your Head Up”; “Dear Mama”; and “Changes.” However, he has a large musical library filled with the influences of his mother, Afeni Shakur’s, struggles and victories as a member of the Black Panther Party. The rapper was well versed on the plights of the Black community and often placed those concerns in music, making hits like “Brenda’s Got A Baby” and “Panther Power.”

Shakur was tragically murdered on September 13, 1996 in Las Vegas and the case has never been solved.
