The New York Knicks were fined due to the small talk of their very own, Phil Jackson. On Tuesday, Jackson was simply a spectator at the Ohio State vs. Nebraska game. This seemed harmful enough right? That’s before Jackson let the chips fall where they may and stated, “(He’s) a great looking kid and a great prospect”, in regard to an Ohio State freshman.
This may seem innocuous, but the NBA does not allow any officials that represent the National Basketball Association to comment on players that have not been linked to the draft yet. Although, we’re sure freshman, D’Angelo Russell, was very flattered.
This isn’t the first time Jackson has been hit in the pocket because of a play on words. Back when Derrick Fisher was still receiving last second dishes to take the final 3-point shot with the Thunder, Jackson commented that he would make a great coach. This pre-recruitment is kind of a thing with Phil isn’t it?
Still, with the Knicks’ record only getting worse (12-47), who can blame him for surveying the waters elsewhere? Maybe Russell will be just what they need in June’s NBA draft to turn the Knicks franchise around.
