I won't bore you with typical and atypical reviews discussing whether The Amazing Spider-man 2 met its goal as a parody or satire of its true form. I get it. We're all use to the Toby McGuire/Kirsten Dunst team work that we all know and love. However, this film did what the previous franchise could not---expand.
The film drew me in from the very first scene with the simple character development that we so longed for. Peter Parker's parents and his heritage was all somehow swept away like the dirty criminals he wrangled in the previous franchise.
Could this new film have derived from an experiment to see just how loyal "Spidey" fans everywhere would be to the true comic story that we knew and loved? The formation and degradation of the Green Goblin was certainly truer in form with this Spider-man facet. Keep in mind, an experimental film at its truest form is defined as a film that rejects the conventions of mainstream movies and explores the possibilities of the film medium. Is that not what we see here?
Regardless of the intricacies of this film, the movie does one thing... entertain. So if you want the background of our favorite superhero, special effects and slow motion graphical art that will leave you on the edge of your seat, this is a movie that you will love from beginning to end. If the sheer, hilarious whit of Andrew Garfield did not move you, the pure love between Spiderman and Gwen should, along with the dynamic mephistophelean tenancies of Jamie Fox playing "Electro". I give this film 4 out of 5 stars and encourage anyone who is a fan to go check out the leaps and bounds Spider-man has in store for you.
