After viewing the Donald Sterling interview with Anderson Cooper Monday night, many were left baffled by his rebuttals to the controversy that has encompassed him. Sterling mainly pointed the finger at the media for subsequently turning the public against him.
However, there were times that one could dangle on the edge of sympathy for sterling. He claimed he was simply acting out of a jealous love for a woman he thought was enthralled with him. He painted the picture of an unyielding Romeo and Juliet story amidst racial bias and prejudice. According to Sterling, no one found these comments distasteful; only the media was causing others to lash out against him.
The bullets just kept coming during the interview with a touch of hypocrisy to boot. Sterling struggled to find one positive word to say about Magic Johnson after correspondent Anderson Cooper inquired about his previous comments directed at the NBA star. sterling did make sure to inform cooper why he thinks Magic Johnson is not a "role model" for the children of Los Angeles. He went on to make a vague attempt at informing the viewers why this was true by touching on Johnson's current health status. From here, the interview took a turn for the worst and Sterling could only stumble through the remainder of Cooper's questions.
Still, sympathy for Sterling isn't that far-fetched is it? He did discuss how his grandchild was being heckled at school because of this issue. Apparently, the strenuous and elongated list of consequences stemming from Sterling's actions has somehow drizzled down to the very core of his family. NBA commissioner Adam Silver and other NBA team owners are now attempting to force sterling's estranged wife to sell her share of the clippers franchise. His grandchild is being taunted at school with children stating, "no candy for racists".
Could this be the final and inevitable fall that drags everyone tied to the sterling name down into a deep hole of despair? Or can Sterling just refrain from doing interviews and back track out of this horrendous predicament? Only time will tell. Let us know what you think below!
