Service: On this date in 1979, the first African American general was named in the Marine Corps- General Frank E Peterson Jr.

Leadership: The influential activist, W.E.B. DuBois was born on this date in Massachusetts in the year 1868.

Sports: We all may be familiar with the great feats and trials that are connected to baseball great, Jackie Robinson. Alongside him, there were other great baseball catchers making strides in 1965. Elston Gene Howard was born in 1929 on this date. He became the highest paid baseball player that year.
