Have you been supplying your pets with poisonous content for years and had no knowledge of it at all? Ironically, there have been over 3,000 complaints regarding Purina’s Beneful dog food brand. The brand, ironically, promotes itself by focusing on healthy dieting for animals. Now a lawsuit finally has the company verbalizing the real issue at hand.

The particular lawsuit filed within the jurisdiction of California revolves around an incident involving three dogs. Each dog was said not be influenced by any other common factors except consuming the Beneful dog kibble. The feedings are said to have resulted in one of the dog’s deaths. After an autopsy was performed on the animal, it was determined the cause of death was due to internal bleeding within the dog’s stomach and lesions on its liver.

What chemical makeup within Beneful is allegedly causing these violent side effects? Mycotoxins are to blame. They are toxins cultivated through mold within grains. These elements have been found in portions of the dog food.

Purina insists the accusations are unfounded and plan to fight the lawsuit tooth and nail. However, according to NBC News, there was a lawsuit settled out of court in May in which Purina and its affiliates compensated other pet owners with a $6.5 million dollar fund because of these claims.

Purina now states, “Like other pet foods, Beneful is occasionally the subject of social media-driven misinformation. On-line postings often contain false, unsupported and misleading allegations that cause undue concern and confusion for our Beneful customers.” However, hypocrisy arises from this statements when previous complaints were silenced with out of court payoffs.

The Food and Drug Administration has also weighed in on the deadly debacle. They confirmed that there have been more than 1,000 cases which resulted in dog deaths correlating to Purina. There have also been several thousand complaints of illnesses attributed to the kibble treats.

With our pets being such a valued and dependent part of the family, would you take the risk? Let us know your thoughts below.
