The leaf petals showcase a bout of color
His footsteps appear somber
The cataclysmic feeling of an underrepresented feeling
This is life, there’s no glass ceiling
The cold he trembles from is perilous
But the beat of these streets continues to gleam
Regardless of the lack of soles on his feet
Interaction – Would they even look?
Has the Invisible Man been extended to include the path he took?
He wants to speak, but has no voice
His disablement to cope made this no choice
Yet and still he has high hopes
This park, with the serene nature of God
Will bring an end to the emptiness inside
A brazen breeze encircles the leaves
A caricature of what his life was it seems
The remembrance of warm nights by the fire
His children, the infectious laughter
Hugs on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day
The belonging he felt when visiting church that day
Suddenly, his dozing stops
No friendly faces to reassure this reality of a nightmare will halt
Unexpectedly someone approaches
Human interaction creates excitement
It’s a man who looks as if he has the world at his feet
Business professional attire, chattering on his contrivance without defeat
The deep blue in his suit gives off a wave of esteem
His shoes – shiny and laced, producing an organizational trait that can be seen in his face
As he approaches, the downtrodden man jumps to act
Maybe this man will be a confidant, we’ll chat
Much too proud to ask for money
Just seeking an acquaintance that can play a game of gin rummy
But as the man approaches, imperceptible the homeless man seems
The businessman just walks by the bench with ease
There was no hello, how are you or acknowledgement
Only the cold breeze of November as his coattail caught up with nature
The man wonders off and ponders
If being alone will forever be in his future
The parade is beginning
Oh, this will be great
The man would get to see the happiness of the city, no volatile traits
As the bands play and children dance,
Veterans are honored for their righteous paths
And suddenly he’s there in battle years before
Helping his comrades survive the horror
Explosions and chaos loom the sky
It will be no better as night falls
The one thing that keeps the man going is a photograph in his memory
His wife, Grace, and the girls made him cherish everything
So he fought on throughout the battle
Only to arrive home and find out a home invasion had destroyed the memories he lauded over
They said it was random and robbery motivated
Ironically, it demolished his provocation
No wants, no desires or employment could fill the void their deaths opened
Screeeech, a car stopping for the band
Shook the man from the mental flashback that often imprisoned him
Material objects meant nothing, if only this lonely feeling was demolished
As the man moves to locate a warm place to stay for the night,
He envisioned all the impoverished congregating in his sight
He knows their faces all too well
They’re all the lost ones within the city in which many live
Day to day, other people walk along, engulfed in their own vibrant songs
The tunes the man hears are different
The wind, creaks and car horns makes up the beat of indifference
On these streets, his life ensues
On these streets, he searches to find life renewed
